Geo-Inquiry Projects
THE Geo-Inquiry PROCESS
Phase 1: Ask
DEVELOPING A GEO-INQUIRY QUESTION
- Students begin by asking driving questions about an issue or problem in their world or community.
Phase 2: Collect
ACQUIRING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
- Phase two is focused on research and data collection. A special emphasis is placed on doing data collection in the field.
Phase 3: Visualize
Organizing & Analyzing Geographic Information
- This phase concentrates on organizing and analyzing scientific information, maps, graphs, charts, infographics, photography, and video in order to identify (or “see”) the story that needs to be told.
Phase 4: Create
Developing Geo-Inquiry Stories
- Simply having the information is often not enough to compel others to act or change behavior. In this phase, students put all of the components of visualization together to create moving stories.
Phase 5: Act
Sharing Geo-Inquiry Stories
- The Geo-Inquiry Process includes a call to action. Data collection and analysis cannot benefit the community unless the results are shared and action is taken. Citizens must take action on what science shows in order to support a healthy and sustainable future.
